For most Indian parents, success is equivalent to government jobs or high-paying private jobs. If their children do not have one or the other, the parents are likely to see them as unsettled. It would be more unsettling for them if those children want to become entrepreneurs and are working on their startups. Parents might even prefer low-paying private jobs over their business minds because according to them, entrepreneurship comes with more insecurities and risks.
It is not only the parents who are likely to have such a fixed mindset. Most of the time, their children also comply with this mode of thinking. After all, we all want to be “settled” as the society understands this term. It is time, however, to change things as they have been and pursue business opportunities. Know that entrepreneurship might have been trending these days, but it is definitely not a new phenomenon. India was once the land of enterprising traders, and perhaps this is the right time for it to become such a prospering land once again!
My book “Decoding Business Minds” delves into great detail about entrepreneurship. The key points that people should keep in mind regarding businesses and jobs are as follows:
It is bound to be hard if you want to create opportunities for yourself and not seize the opportunities that others provide you. However, it is not an impossible task. Just have faith in your dreams. Be an explorer and venture out into the business world. Be excited, not afraid, because entrepreneurship is a whole lot of adventures and it is going to be worth it.
